Weaving a Legacy Capital Campaign

With
the success of The Weber Challenge in FY 2008-2009, The Weber School completed
Phase I of its Weaving a Legacy Capital Campaign. During the course of this multi-year effort,
over 240 donors contributed approximately $30 million to the Campaign. The Weber School Board of Trustees and School
leadership gratefully acknowledge and thank all donors who supported that essential
development activity!
While
the Campaign's stated goal was to raise the funding required to retire the
initial costs of purchasing the land and building the buildings that comprise
its beautiful new campus, its true goal was much deeper: to maintain
Jewish identity and grow the Jewish community. History demonstrates that
our proud community may never take its existence for granted. It must
create a legacy to secure its future and perpetuate and grow its members.
Jewish values, embedded in a rigorous educational environment, are the
hallmark of The Weber School. Our students are the future. Support
for the Weaving a Legacy Capital
Campaign has and will continue to ensure that future is bright.

Why did The Weber
School conduct a
capital campaign?
|
|
Established
in 1997, it did not take long for the New Atlanta Jewish High School - now
known as The Doris and Alex Weber Jewish Community High School - to identify
the need for a permanent and expanded campus. When the parcel of land
situated at the corner of Roswell
and Abernathy Roads became available in 2003, the School's leadership quickly
set about to purchase this ideal site. Architectural plans were drawn up,
and financing was arranged through BB&T. With the generosity of lead
donors, Felicia and Joe Weber, and a slate of additional major contributors to
anchor the effort, The Weaving a Legacy Capital Campaign was launched.
Three
short years later, The Weber School moved into its permanent and beautiful new
home. Although trustees, parents and friends responded generously, with
contributions totaling just over half the goal, the Campaign did not end when
the School was dedicated. The need to raise funds to retire the debt incurred
to purchase the land and build the facilities continued.
What is the status of the
capital campaign now?
In FY 2009-2010, the Weber School Board of
Trustees undertook a five-year review of its strategic plan, a process that
will impact the goals for Phase II of the Weaving
a Legacy Capital Campaign. While the
strategic planning process continues, plans for launching Phase II of the
Campaign are on hold. Though Phase I of the Campaign was successful, The Weber
School still carries a degree of capital debt it seeks to retire. The Weber School
encourages donors who wish to help to make a gift to this effort.
