Learning Center
Accommodations at Weber
All Weber students, regardless of course level/schedule, may qualify for consideration for additional instructional accommodations, under the following guidelines:
-
- Parents must submit a (dated within 3 years of submission) psycho-educational evaluation, which must include cognitive and achievement measures, performed by a fully credentialed evaluator for review by Weber's Learning Specialist.
- Specific, written recommendations for the requested instructional accommodation(s) must be included in the psycho-educational evaluation.
Weber offers, as approved by the Learning Specialist, the following instructional accommodations:
-
- Extended time on tests and exams - not to exceed 50% -- Classroom quizzes and assignments are not included in the extended time accommodation.
- Use of a personal laptop for classroom notes - contingent upon classroom teacher approval
- Preferential seating within the classroom
- Use of a laptop/computer for essay writing on tests and exams
- The laptop/computer must be owned and licensed by Weber.
- No personal laptop/computer may be utilized for tests and/or exams at any time.
- The subject area teacher must verify that the laptop/computer is used for the essay ("essay" is defined as a composition requiring 3 or more paragraphs for completion) portion of the exam.
- Laptop/computer usage is not approved for short answer/response questions.
Student assignment and/or participation in Learning Center instruction is based on academic need and is open to all Weber students. Students are not required to have psycho-educational evaluation on file in order to utilize the Learning Center.
Since all Learning Center instruction takes place within study hall blocks or during lunch, students may not leave their subject area classes to work in the Learning Center.
Weber does not offer resource, self-contained, and/or support classes; Weber courses offer curricula which incorporate a variety of instructional strategies geared at reaching all types of learners (visual, auditory, experiential, etc.). All of Weber's course levels are considered college preparatory.
