College Counseling

Mission Statement

The Weber School College Counseling Department believes in the importance of counseling each student as an individual who has particular needs, interests, and goals.  The relationship between the counselor and student is based on respect, honesty, and shared commitment to the process.  The counselor helps the student clearly understand his/her role and responsibilities in the college process while at the same time providing guidance, information, encouragement, and care for each student.  Although the college guidance process is a partnership between the counselor and the student and his/her parents as they all walk the journey together, the main focus is on the shared responsibilities of the counselor and the student.  By spending quality time with each student, the college counselor comes to know the student - his/her strengths, weaknesses, and college aspirations.  Conversations with and written descriptions by a student's teachers as well as written commentary by the student will provide the counselor with examples and details about who the student is and who the student is becoming.  The counselor will incorporate this information into a letter of recommendation.  This knowledge will help the counselor steer the student in the direction of colleges that will best match a particular student's goals.
