The Poetry Out Loud contest is part of a sophomore-year project. Students pick a poem from the Poetry Out Loud Poetry Anthology, memorize it and write a personal narrative connecting a story from their lives to their poem. Students then begin the process of the competition by reciting the poem for their classes. Students with the highest scores and most votes from their peers on their recitations advance to the school level competition. This year's winner was Matthew Aronin, with second place going to Nicole Cobb and third place going to Sam Feldstein.
What's Up Weber!
Weber's new Robotics team is part of the Georgia chapter of FIRST Robotics, competing in the Marist Blue League. As part of this league, our students will build robots and compete in various matches throughout the school year. Teams are given information about the upcoming challenges in advance of the events so they can construct their robots with specific functionality in mind. Last week Weber competed in their first league meet along with a number of other rookie teams in the area.
In addition to standard class-related field trips throughout the year, Weber students have the unique opportunity to participate in grade level overnight trips. These trips provide opportunities for focused group cooperation, community building, and academics while simultaneously exposing the students to a variety of cultural and historical sites.
