HEADLINES ![]() ![]() ![]() This semester, Weber launched a new DZA class: "Design Marketplace." Co-taught by Design Instructor Madi Anderson and Director of Technology & Design Chris Chapman, "Design Marketplace" teaches students how to run a business. "Students will learn about entrepreneurship, marketing, salesmanship, and other related topics that are integral to running a business," shared Ms. Anderson. "I like to call this class, "How to create your own Etsy store 101."
The course, fashioned after the "Make 10" course developed by Steve Chinnis at Georgia Tech's School of Industrial Design, tasks students to develop a product idea and create five of each product. At the end of the year, the students will sell their products at a design symposium planned by the class and marketed to the Weber community. Students will learn how to market their products on social media and around the school beforehand to create awareness of their offerings and promote interest and drive sales. Profits from the product sales will go toward a Covid-safe, end of the year celebration for the class.
