Leadership Starts from Within

After launching the newly created Office of Student Support and Enrichment in the fall, The Weber School was excited to partner with Nourishing the Soul Workshops (NTS) to bring its unique leadership intensive Leadership Starts from Within (LSW) to Weber’s Peer Leadership program. Developed and led by Jewish educator Tracie Bernstein, the training redefines what it means to lead. The leadership training is pragmatic and action-oriented, engaging Weber students with lively debates, sophisticated content, and brainstorming.

Jordan Crawford, Weber’s Director of Student Support and Enrichment, was thrilled with the student’s positive response to the training. “The NTS Leadership Program was a great fit for Weber and its commitment to programs geared toward fostering healthy interactions and positive group dynamics between students. Peer Leaders engaged in discussions and deeper thought about their leadership experiences through a Jewish lens. The skills and discussions began with foundational frameworks of conceptualizing leadership attributes and models and then continued to more depth, such as meeting the needs of a group, acknowledging and honoring one's own needs as a leader, and navigating conflict centered around disparate values.”

Weber senior Pnina Sasson was so impressed with the training that she felt compelled to introduce the concepts she learned to her peers in United Synagogue Youth (USY), saying, “this activity helped me further understand the true depth and responsibility of being an effective leader."

Ms. Bernstein launched NTS workshops in 2020 as the culmination of 30 years of work developing and sharing programs that help people access meaningful Jewish experiences. Nuanced in its approach, the LSW program teaches young adults to lead with self-awareness, compassion-centered strength for conflict resolution, communication tools to reframe problem-solving into solutions, and creative, collaborative visioning.
