The Weber School's 3rd Annual Karlin Design Expo!

Get ready to be inspired at The Weber School's 3rd Annual Karlin Design Expo on May 15th! This remarkable event showcases an array of student-led projects in science, technology, and design; all developed in collaboration with The Daniel Zalik Academy (DZA). The expo offers an interactive and immersive experience, welcoming parents, students, and community members to explore and engage with our students’ innovative creations.

Last year's expo was a resounding success, transforming the school into a vibrant gallery highlighting the practical applications of Weber's cutting-edge Daniel Zalik Academy, art studios, and digital fabrication lab. This year's event promises to be even more spectacular, presenting exhibits from various classes that collaborated with the DZA throughout the year.

The popular Design Marketplace returns, featuring diverse student-designed products, including exquisite Mezuzahs. The displayed items result from teamwork between students from Weber's Design Marketplace course and those from other classes working alongside the DZA. The course focuses on the entrepreneurial and product development aspects of industrial design, bringing together students from fine arts, physics, Jewish studies, and math classes to showcase a unique range of final products.

Highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of the DZA, attendees can look forward to seeing Challah cutting boards reflecting students' ideas of Shabbat and time from the Jewish Studies Comparative Jewish Literature class, designing, building, and competing with catapults during a Physics problem-solving design sprint, and observing how the Interactive Products class utilized Lego Mindstorms to improve quality of life on a desert island. The expo also includes exhibits from the DZA senior capstone project and the DZA-Rambots, Weber's award-winning robotics team. Additional interactive exhibits comprise a contemporary spin on the classic Pinewood Derby and an opportunity for attendees to use a state-of-the-art laser cutter to engrave chocolate.

Made possible by a generous grant from The Zalik Foundation, The Daniel Zalik Academy stands as a testament to the success of its interdisciplinary approach to education and its commitment to making the world a better place through science, technology, engineering, and design. Join us and be inspired by the next generation of innovators!
