Poetry Out Loud

After winning classroom competitions, five sophomores in Dr. Hannah Chapple and Sarah Roquemore’s English classes competed in the final round of the school-level national poetry reciting competition “Poetry Out Loud.” Congratulations to Reese Oberkfell who won the school-level competition and now moves on to the Metro Atlanta Regional Competition in February for a chance to advance to state and national competitions. The second-place winner was Elliott Furie.

Special thanks to faculty judges Olivia Rocamora, Brad Bass, Dr. Jon Schmitt, and Holly Chesser, prompter Corinne Skott, and scorekeeper Herschel Revzin. Additional thanks to Music Program Director Drew Cohen and students David Mastov and Hayley Lieberman for providing musical interludes during the judges' deliberations, and faculty members Michelle Geppert and Dr. Will Ashby for helping with technology and other logistics.
 
Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition for high school students across the country. Since the program began in 2005, more than four million students across the country have participated in Poetry Out Loud.
