Bringing Home the Gold!

Several of Weber’s top athletes dazzled the crowds at this summer’s Maccabiah games in Israel, where approximately 10,000 Jewish athletes from 80 countries came to compete. Weber alumnus Logan Spector (Class of 2021) joined Weber senior Caleb Ouanounou, Weber junior Harry Kitey, and other athletes from around the US on the basketball court for some incredible competition against other countries.

“Playing basketball in Israel with kids from other countries who are also Jewish and love the game was an incredible experience,” Caleb shared. Coach Tasha Humphrey added, “Thriving against international talent gave these athletes a new perspective on the game, and they came back to Weber hungrier and ready to take our team to a new level.” Alan Kitey, Harry’s father, was impressed with Harry’s Maccabiah experience, saying, “I believe Weber is producing great athletes, leaders, and global citizens, due in part to the year-round work that Weber Athletics and Coach Humphrey puts in with their athletes.”

The USA team competed in pool play against Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Germany, then moved to the semi-finals against Australia, and ultimately took home the gold medal in their final game against Israel! Retired American-Israeli NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire served as the assistant coach for Team USA, bringing both great enthusiasm and star power to our amazing athletes.
