Advanced Hebrew Students Get Wild

Students in Keren Ben Haim's and Iris Greber's Advanced Hebrew Honors 2 and 3 classes recently completed a unit on Israeli wildlife. The emphasis was placed on acquiring relevant vocabulary while researching the social and emotional significance of wild and domesticated animals found in Israel. Through a project-based learning approach, students were tasked with researching an animal of their choice, using Israeli websites and resources, and presenting their findings to their peers in Hebrew. The animals studied ranged from sea turtles and sharks to alpacas, military K-9 unit dogs, eagles, and deer, with research topics such as the animals' habitat, diet, behavior, and environment. Additionally, the students were given the opportunity to showcase their artistic abilities by decorating ceiling tiles in the classroom with a representation of the animal they researched. The project was a resounding success, providing the students with a comprehensive understanding of Israeli animal life and an opportunity to practice their Hebrew language skills and express their creativity.
