Dr. Hannah Chapple, Dean of Interdisciplinary Studies, published an essay in this month's English Journal, the monthly publication of the NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English). Her article, included in English Journal's Speaking My Mind feature, is titled "Voice and Agency in Digital Storytelling." Dr. Chapple participated in a National Endowment for the Humanities summer program for secondary educators during the summer of 2021 on Shakespeare, Folktales, and Digital Storytelling. At The Weber School, Dr. Chapple's 2021-2022 sophomore class created Digital Storytelling projects during their unit on The Taming of the Shrew, on which she reflects in her essay, describing her experience in which "students made claims with authority, justified them with confidence, and told a multimodal story with a level of ownership I had not yet seen from them." Dr. Chapple will be presenting her work on Digital Storytelling at the upcoming GCTE (Georgia Council of Teachers of English) conference this February in Athens, GA, as a part of a panel of participants who took part in the NEH summer program and have worked with students to demonstrate learning through digital storytelling.
