Grassroots Change

Students in Keren Ben-Haim’s Hebrew classes welcomed Audrey Bloomberg, Outreach and Partnerships Manager at SparkIL, for an interactive discussion about the power of microloans and grassroots change. Audrey’s visit was part of an ongoing relationship between The Weber School and SparkIL, an Israeli nonprofit platform that supports small business owners through interest-free loans.

The program was coordinated with the help of Arianna Zalik ’26, a SparkIL Teen Fellow and Weber’s on-campus ambassador, and presented by Haiden Jacoboff ’27 and Jordan Keilin ’27. This year’s SparkIL visit builds on last year’s visit with Israeli entrepreneur Aviva Auerbach, who shared her story of resilience after the October 7 attacks.

This year, students once again received $36 to lend to a small business of their choice through the SparkIL platform. The funds, made possible by an anonymous donor, are directed toward businesses across Israel’s social, economic, and geographic peripheries, including those affected by the war since October 7. As loans are repaid over time, students will have the opportunity to re-lend and continue supporting a diverse network of entrepreneurs across Israel.
