Each year, The Weber School welcomes two Israeli teenagers into our community through the Shinshinim program. This global initiative places recent high school graduates in Jewish communities worldwide for a year of volunteer service before they enter the IDF. This year, our Shinshinim are Rotem Ben Aharon and Naama Bachnoff, and we are already so glad they’re here!
Rotem, from Moshav Neta’im near Tel Aviv, and Naama, from Yokne’am HaMoshava in northern Israel, will spend the year engaging students both in and out of the classroom through informal education, holiday programming, Hebrew language enrichment, and spontaneous conversations in the hallway. Their role is simple and powerful: to bring Israeli culture to life, build friendships, and strengthen the personal connection between our students and the State of Israel.
Rotem is an avid soccer fan with a deep love for architecture, a subject he studied in high school and hopes to continue pursuing. Naama brings a mix of passions, majoring in both chemistry and theatre, and is a longtime member of the Tzofim (Israeli Scouts). Their personalities shine through even in their food preferences (shawarma for Rotem, schnitzel for Naama) and favorite Hebrew slang: Rotem’s is “Yalla” and Naama’s is “Sababa.”
The Shinshinim program at Weber is led by Morah Keren Ben-Haim, Coordinator for Israel Campus Programming, and supported through our continued partnership with the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta and the Jewish Agency for Israel.
Welcome, Rotem and Naama! We’re so happy to enter into 5786 with you both!
