MKILF challenges students to think critically about Zionism, Jewish identity, and the moral complexities of leadership

Now in its third year, the Michael Kay Israel Leadership Fellows (MKILF) program continues to offer a unique opportunity for Weber students in grades 10–12 to grow as leaders in service of Israel and the Jewish people.

Designed as a co-curricular Honors Diploma distinction, MKILF challenges students to think critically about Zionism, Jewish identity, and the moral complexities of leadership. Through immersive retreats, enrichment sessions, and guided reflection, Fellows engage deeply with Israel’s history, culture, and evolving place in the world.

This year’s program begins with an overnight fall retreat in late September, where Fellows will study with Dr. Noam Weissman and a team of educators from OpenDor Media, creators of Unpacked. Additional spring workshops and enrichment events will further support students in developing their voice and vision as leaders and Israel educators.

Throughout the year, Fellows will pursue six key learning outcomes:
  • Deepen personal connection to Israel and Jewish peoplehood
  • Engage with Zionism in historical and contemporary context
  • Cultivate critical thinking and respectful discourse
  • Apply learning through active leadership
  • Build capacity to respond to rising antisemitism and anti-Zionism
  • Reflect on ethical questions related to identity, justice, and responsibility
Seniors registered for the Abe Besser Israel (Poland) Experience in January will also participate in exclusive leadership track programming during their time in Israel.

The Michael Kay Israel Leadership Fellows program is made possible by a generous grant by Ann Kay and her family in honor of their late husband and father, Michael Kay z”l, a pillar of the Atlanta Jewish community and a long-serving member of The Weber School Board of Trustees. We are honored to continue this ambitious initiative in his name, providing our students with unparalleled opportunities to grow in leadership on behalf of Israel.
