Newfound Friendships

Students in Hebrew Teachers Almog Yehuda and Sheri Arotchas’ Hebrew 2 and 3 classes recently completed a unique unit that allowed for an exciting cross-cultural communication opportunity.

While students studied specialized schools in Israel, comparing Jewish values, Jewish studies, Hebrew, and the sciences and arts to their Weber equivalent, Ms. Arotchas connected the students with a peer at an Israeli school. Together, the students discussed, in Hebrew and English, the similarities and differences between their schools.

Both groups were thrilled to be able to practice their language skills while learning about each other’s school experiences, with students sharing, “This was one of the most amazing activities that we have done this year. It was really cool to talk about how our lives differ instead of just reading about it. It was a wonderful experience.”

“Many of the students exchanged phone numbers and connected on social media so they could nurture their newfound friendships,” said Ms. Arochas. “The teens from Israel said they were excited that they were able to understand each other in Hebrew, and they are looking forward to the next opportunity to connect.”
