Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Field Trip

Weber’s Sports Science and Management Academy (SSMA) offers hands-on learning in various career fields related to health and wellness, sports medicine, sports nutrition, physical training and fitness, sports management, and sports policy and law. Recently, students in Weber's Sports Management & Entertainment class, taught by Rocquel Francis, visited the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl offices in a field study designed to offer students a firsthand view of professional sports management.

Patti Young, executive assistant to the CEO, started the visit with a tour, discussing the Peach Bowl's brand journey, including its origins and name changes due to sponsorships. With over 50 years under her belt at the Peach Bowl and recognitions from both the Atlanta Hospitality and Peach Bowl Hall of Fame, Patti’s insights were invaluable. The students then met with David Epps, the COO and VP of the Bowl. Epps, whose role encompasses everything from marketing to event operations, shared his experiences coordinating one of the state's largest sporting events. An interactive Q&A session followed, where students connected with experts from marketing, media, and Team Ops. The Team Ops discussion, in particular, shed light on the logistical challenges of hosting such events, covering topics from player accommodations to broadcasting details. The visit ended with students treated to Peach Bowl memorabilia, including custom flip coins, Bluetooth speakers, and Chick-fil-A gift cards. Thank you to Sports Management & Law Teacher Rocquel Francis for organizing and leading this incredible opportunity and to Coach Anthony Baker for chaperoning.

In the dynamic world of sports and entertainment, hands-on experience is invaluable, and Weber's Sports Management & Entertainment course continually emphasizes real-world exposure. Next up for the students is a visit to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for a behind-the-scenes tour and discussion about sustainability, fan experience, and positive community impact.
