Music Program's Visiting Artist Series

Weber students had the chance to engage with musician, rabbinical student, and digital creator Marni Loffman, the featured artist at this year’s Limmud ATL+SE retreat. As part of a longstanding collaboration between Limmud and The Weber School, Marni spent two days on campus leading musical workshops, class discussions, and community singing.

In AP Music Theory, students explored Jewish musical traditions through Marni’s perspective as both artist and rabbinical student. Marni discussed their journey from studying anthropology and religion in college to producing the album The Long Short Path, and how they use music to build connections, celebrate Jewish identity, and pray joyfully. Band students participated in a hands-on workshop in the recording studio, and Friday’s lunchtime Ruach Shabbat brought students and faculty together in song, led by Marni alongside Rabbi Adam Mayer and Music Director Drew Cohen.

Marni’s visit is the first of this year’s professional musicians visiting as part of Weber’s Music Program’s Visiting Artist Series, an “Only at Weber” initiative launched in 2022. The series brings professional musicians to campus to work directly with students, offering real-world insight into the music industry and creating opportunities for our students to play with and learn from working musicians.

Next up in the series, Weber will welcome two exciting guest performers: The Olli Soikkeli Trio and Woodenhead (featuring the Bonerama Trombone Line). Each of these artists will also take the stage in a public concert at the Tzadik Performing Arts Center in partnership with Steve’s Live Music. With its intimate performance space, professional-grade recording and music studios, and flexible classroom facilities, the Tzadik Performing Arts Center is quickly becoming a go-to community resource where students, educators, and artists explore, perform, and celebrate music.
