Visiting Artist Series: Oran Etkin

Weber continues to be a hub for bringing renowned musicians to share their expertise with students with its latest guest in its Visiting Artist Series, Oran Etkin. Etkin, an acclaimed musician known for his eclectic blend of influences, was born in Israel and influenced by New Orleans jazz, West African rhythms, Brazilian melodies, and Jewish traditions. His diverse musical background provided a deep learning experience for our students as he shared insights into his improvisational approach to music and his journey as a musician.

During the visit, the class worked with compositions created by Weber freshman Ben Kalmin, with these pieces serving as a foundation for improvisation exercises, allowing students to explore their musical creativity. Etkin's philosophy, "the spaces between our fingers are what define them," resonated deeply, emphasizing the importance of restraint and intention in music.

Etkin's visit, rich in artistic exploration and mentorship, exemplifies the essence of the Tzadik Performing Arts Center. By providing a platform for students to engage with esteemed artists like Etkin, Weber continues to inspire, challenge, and nurture their creativity, ensuring their growth as musicians and individuals.
