SSMA Field Trip to Atlanta Gladiators

Students in Weber’s Sports Science and Management Academy (SSMA) had the opportunity to dive into the world of professional sports with a visit to the Atlanta Gladiators hockey team. This immersive experience offered students a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the operations of a minor league team and engage directly with team professionals—from athletic trainers to marketing experts. Students delved into the complexities of sports management, witnessing the coordination, strategy, and passion required to bring a game day to life.

The SSMA at Weber offers hands-on learning in various career fields related to health and wellness, sports medicine, sport nutrition, physical training and fitness, sport management, and sport policy and law. Beyond traditional classroom lectures and assignments, the SSMA program provides exclusive opportunities for students to gain practical, first-hand knowledge through internships with experienced professionals. Students in the SSMA work towards an honors distinction by creating a portfolio that showcases their mastery of program outcomes. The Academy offers an Honors Diploma with customizable tracks, allowing students to deepen their knowledge and skills in their chosen discipline. This #OnlyAtWeber experience provides a level of academic learning and professional exposure typically found only at the college level.
